Money has always brought up complicated feelings for me. I wanted to be able to have the lovely things money could buy, but I didn't want to have to pay too much attention to it. I just wanted to have enough. I HATED opening those credit card bills with the jaw-dropping total. Yes, I bought all of those things. But surely I hadn't spent that much?
Determined to get this part of my life straight, I slashed my spending and painfully paid back the total. Yes! Debt free! Only to find myself a few months later opening yet another scary credit card bill. It didn't make sense to me. I've worked in the business world and as a teacher. I've earned good money. I work the numbers and balance my bank account. So why did I keep doing this? Working through Karen McCall's book Financial Recovery - Developing a Healthy Relationship with Money has made me feel calm and centred around money.
I finally know I have enough, and when I spend it, instead of feeling the old toxic mix of guilt, defiance and anger, I feel joy, peace and contentment. This change led me to train with Karen as a Financial Recovery money coach. I'm inspired by the prospect of teaching others what Karen has taught me.
